About Stòras Shlèite

Stòras Shlèite is a heritage project which is collecting and presenting the rich Gaelic heritage of Sleat. The project is led by the Library at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and has received funding from Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

Main aims of the project
  1. To collect together items in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig’s archive related to Gaelic in Sleat – music, song, oral history, literature, interviews, dialect, place-names – and share this with the people of Sleat.
  2. To collect information connected to Gaelic in Sleat from outside the College’s collections – song, story, letters, images.
  3. To conduct new interviews with Sleat Gaelic speakers.
  4. To create a project website for the community.
  5. To create school resources that enable the children of the area to become more familiar with Sleat Gaelic and the rich heritage of the area.
